Softwares
Computer programs are compared to literary works and are regulated by Law 9609/96.
Registration is optional and, if done, takes place with INPI – National Institute of Industrial Property.
Protection is provided under the Copyright Law – Law 9610/96 – with some restrictions, such as the absence of most of the author’s moral rights and a shorter exclusivity period.
The registration aims to record the creation date, authorship, and content of the program. There is no examination of the program’s originality.
